Yolanda, quake aid for DepEd personnel unreleased
MANILA, Philippines - Over 45,000 personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda and the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Bohol have yet to receive financial assistance.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones issued a memorandum yesterday directing division and regional offices to submit the liquidation requirements to ensure the release of the second tranche of the assistance to be sourced from the President’s Social Fund.
Records show that the Aquino administration approved the release of P1.9 billion to DepEd personnel whose houses were damaged by either of the two calamities.
However, the agreement, provided that only half of the amount would be released to the beneficiaries. The remaining half will be released only after the liquidation of the first tranche.
“The approval of the release of the second tranche is based on the favorable results arising from the conduct of the financial and physical performance evaluation by the PMS (Presidential Management Staff),” said Briones.
