NAGA CITY, Philippines (Bicol Standard) — No less than 27 killings in the agriculture town of Libon have been attributed to the Concepcion Gang.

The latest victim, who died at 4 p.m. on Sunday, was identified as Gilbert Misambique, a barangay councilor of Bonbon, Libon.

Police records show that the gang members have been accused of illegal activities from extortion to the illegal drug trade to murder. This has produced a chilling effect on potential witnesses.

Over the weekend, Chief Superintendent Melvin Buenafe, regional police director, told the Bicol Standard that a composite team of the police and the Army will be assigned to checkpoints to secure residents.

It will be recalled that Gilbert Concepcion, the gang leader, was implicated in the murder of Makati City engineer Nelson Morales and several others.

He is also tagged as responsible for the death of his own father and the rape of a cousin, apart from the string of killings that have been recorded in the police blotter since 2013.

Libon Mayor Wilfredo Maronilla, during the latest Peace and Order Council meeting, called on his constituents to help authorities.

He also mentioned a resolution requesting the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, through its chairman Dante Jimenez, to help raise reward money for informants against Concepcion.

Buenafe, on the other hand, echoed the same views that the support of the residents is needed to address the problem.

He warned that Gilbert Concepcion and his gang are heavily armed and dangerous.
