Batch '97, Gateway 2007 win SHAABAA division titles

CEBU, Philippines - Batch '97 and Gateway Batch 2007 completed a two-game sweep of their foes to win the championship in their respective divisions in the PLDT SME Nation-Alfredo Gothong 21st Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Cup last Wednesday night at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu old campus along General Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City.

Christopher Chad Go scored 12, while Magdaleno Sy and Walter Ong finished with 11 points each as Batch '97 finished off Dynacast Batch 2001 in style, 59-37, to grab the Division B title.

So dominant Batch '97 was that it never looked back after racing to a 17-8 start. It sustained its relentless offensive for the rest of the match on the way to post a 22-point blowout.

On the other hand, Aaron John de los Reyes fired 25 points and Brennon Kent Gothong chipped in a dozen markers as Gateway 2007 shut the lights out of Kitrol Batch 2003, 59-44, to snare the Division C crown.

It was cruise control for Gateway 2007 after it closed the first half with a 27-21 advantage. With the momentum on its side, Gateway went to deliver a knockout 21-13 punch on Kitrol in the third quarter.

Jan Michael Jac was the lone double-digit scorer for Kitrol with 18 points. (FREEMAN)
