Probe on fake products sought

Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A board member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in Negros Occidental has called for an investigation into the alleged proliferation of fake products in the province.

Alain Gatuslao, chairman of the committee on laws and ordinances of the provincial board, said retailers are complaining that fake products are being sold by up to 60 percent lower than the original products.

Gatuslao said he would ask the Department of Health (DOH) to check the ingredients of these fake items, which may affect the health of consumers.

Representatives of the DOH, Department of Trade and Industry and National Bureau of Investigation as well as product distributors were invited to attend the public hearing next week.

Gatuslao said among the fake products being sold in the province are cigarette, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and noodles.
