Magnitude 6.5 quake rocks Davao Oriental
MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude-6.5 earthquake shook Davao Oriental on Saturday morning, but no damage or injury has been reported.
The quake occurred at 6:53 a.m. and was located 42 kilometers southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
It was felt at Intensity 5 in Mati, Davao Oriental and Davao City.
Intensity 4 was felt in General Santos City; Alabel, Glan & Malapatan, Sarangani; and Polomolok, South Cotabato. Tupi, South Cotabato and Cagayan De Oro City, on the other hand, felt the quake at Intensity 3.
The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, is not expected to generate aftershocks.
Phivolcs said an Intensity 4 quake is moderately strong; Intensity 3 is weak and Intensity 2 is slightly felt.
