Cagayan declares war vs illegal logging

Victor Martin - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines – The provincial government of Cagayan has intensified its campaign against illegal logging.

Gov. Manuel Mamba formed Task Force Lingkod Cagayan even as he challenged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to file charges against those behind illegal logging.

Mamba warned illegal loggers and their protectors that he would identify them if they would not stop their illegal activities.

At least 1,600 board feet of illegally sawn lumber were recently seized in Barangay Naguilatan in Peñablanca town.

Nelson Tumalian, provincial environment and natural resources officer, said they would put up more checkpoints in the province to prevent illegal logging.
