Bad weather hampers retrieval of crash victims

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Strong winds yesterday prevented rescuers from retrieving bodies from a helicopter that crashed on the mountains of General Nakar in Quezon.

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) will try to resume the search and rescue operation today, should good weather prevail.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines confirmed on Saturday that the helicopter of Macroasia Air Taxi Services, which was reported missing on Aug. 22, had been located.

The fatalities were identified as Capt. Miguel Logronio and aircraft mechanic Jay Gregorio.

The two were on their way to pickup stranded engineers and miners at the Sumag River diversion tunnel in General Nakar, when they crashed.

Bad weather had hampered efforts to locate the missing helicopter.

The crash site was found by the PAF rescue team on Tuesday.
