Alleged drug users shot dead in San Juan, Marikina

MANILA, Philippines - Two alleged illegal drug users were gunned down in separate incidents in San Juan and Marikina Cities on Friday.

Reports reaching the Eastern Police District identified the victim in the San Juan shooting as Gilber Caniguel, 44, jobless, of 2nd West Crame, San Juan

Police said Caniguel was standing near his house at about 10 p.m. when the gunman, armed with a pistol, appeared and repeatedly shot him. Caniguel died on the spot, police said.

The gunman then fled the scene after the shooting.

Meanwhile at about 3:30 p.m., jeepney driver Estelito Tanyag, 53, was shot dead along BG Molina Street in Parang, Marikina, by two gunmen who were riding a motorcycle.

According to the Marikina City Police, Tanyag already surrendered to police last July 15 after police officers visited his house during an “Oplan Tokhang” operation.
