Helicopter on rescue mission crashes
CAMP NAKAR, Lucena City, Philippines – A private helicopter that went missing after it was dispatched to conduct search and rescue operations for workers trapped in a flooded tunnel in Sitio Sumag in General Nakar, Quezon has crashed.
Lt. Col. Ramil Anoyo, commander of the Army’s 48th Infantry Battalion, said the wreckage of the helicopter was spotted in Sitio Tambo in Barangay Umiray on Tuesday.
The fate of the pilot, retired Air Force Col. Miguel Lobronio, and his co-pilot Jay Gregorio remain unknown.
The helicopter took off from Barangay Bigke in Norzagaray, Bulacan at around noon on Aug. 15, but failed to land in Sitio Sumag.
Meanwhile, the bodies of six workers trapped in the tunnel have been retrieved.
Henry Buzar, chief of the Quezon Disaster Coordinating Council, identified the victims as Zenith Picat, Danny Harnois, David Guiage Jr., Simeon Sig-Od, Ferdie Sanadan and Roland Sanchez.
Only a certain Salvador Pacling survived the incident.
