Cagayan Valley, Bicol post highest employment rate
MANILA, Philippines – Cagayan Valley and the Bicol region have posted the highest employment rate, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported yesterday.
Employment rate in Cagayan Valley was at 96.9 percent, the latest labor force survey conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority showed. The region also posted the lowest unemployment rate at 3.1 percent.
Employment rate in the Bicol region was at 96.2 percent, higher than the 93.9 percent national employment rate. Unemployment rate was at 3.8 percent.
Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla, acting DOLE-Bicol director, said the survey is expected to boost DOLE’s efforts to create more employment opportunities in the region.
Trayvilla said some 3.7 million people aged 15 years and above or 67 percent are part of the labor force in Bicol.
She attributed the high employment rate in the region to job promotion programs and services of the DOLE and local government units.
However, Trayvilla said, Bicol also posted a 33.6 percent underemployment rate, the highest among the regions.
