KORONADAL CITY — Alert guards on Monday foiled an attempt by a visitor to pass on drugs concealed in packs of instant noodles to a detainee in the city jail here.
Gechris Abanilla, warden of the Koronadal City jail, said Joy Castañeda, now in police custody, was about to give the two sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, found inside the noodle packs, to Garry Tan.
Castañeda and Tan had lived together as “common-law couple” prior to the incarceration of the latter for a drug offense.
Abanilla said jail guards became suspicious of Castañeda’s package for Tan when she forced her way into the jail despite knowing it was past the time for visits to detainees.
The jail guards who inspected the package found shabu inside two of the six packs of instant noodles intended for Tan.
Abanilla said they immediately detained Castañeda and turned her over to the local police.
In a statement Tuesday, the city police said Castañeda shall be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Philippine Dangerous Drugs Act.
