Alleged drug peddler gunned down in rented room in Pasig City

Mike Frialde - Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines -- An alleged drug peddler was shot and killed by three unidentified gunmen in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City on Thursday night.

According to the Pasig City Police, Enrique Lising, alias Boy Singkit, was sleeping in his rented room on the second floor of a house inside the Cattleya Wakas Creek compound along M.H. del Pilar St. at about 11:15 pm when the three unidentified armed men barged in.

Police said the gunmen fired at Lising several times and killed him on the spot before fleeing the scene.

Police said Eleanor Valencia, Lising's neighbor who was sleeping on the ground floor of the house, was hit by a stray bullet. She was brought to the Pasig City General Hospital and is now reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators said Lising was a known drug peddler in Barangay Pinagbuhatan and was even included in the barangay’s “drugs watchlist.”

Recovered by police at the crime scene were three slugs from a pistol of still unknown caliber.

According to the Philippine National Police, it is investigating more than 800 drug-related deaths in recent weeks. This does not include more than 600 killed in actual police operations.

Philippine National Police Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo have attributed  the deaths to drug syndicates.
