Marijuana farmer who surrendered twice gets livelihood assistance

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines (Philippines News Agency) -- A marijuana farmer who surrendered twice to police has been given livelihood assistance by the local government in Agusan del Sur.
Police records show that farmer Roberto Oyda Manlumisyon, 49, resident of Barangay Kasapa 1, Loreto town, yielded to authorities the first time on July 20, bringing with him dried marijuana leaves with an estimated worth of P176,000.
On Tuesday morning, he showed up again at the Loreto Municipal Police Station accompanied by his village chairman.
He brought with him 1.1 kg of marijuana seeds with an estimated worth of P27,500 and 44.5 kg of marijuana stalks worth P5.562 million.
The farmer's cultivation of marijuana made him the top high-value target of the police in his town.
Senior Inspector Aldrin Salinas presented Manlumisyon to Loreto Mayor Ligaya Otaza.
In his desire to start anew, Manlumisyon was recognized for his cooperation in the anti-illegal drugs drive.
The provincial government provided the farmer two sacks of certified corn seeds, 10 kg of hybrid monggo seeds and Falcata seedlings to plant on his farmland, two sacks of rice, and cash assistance for the repair and renovation of his house.
