No voter’s ID for minors – Comelec

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Those below 18 years old will not be given voter’s identification cards, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said voters aged 15 to 17 are not yet considered regular voters.

“There’s no permanent list for 15 to 17 year olds,” Jimenez said.

Those aged 15 to 30 can participate in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, but only those between 18 to 24 can run for a post.

The SK elections will be held simultaneous with the barangay elections on Oct. 31.

Meanwhile, the Comelec urged registered voters to claim their IDs from their election officers.

Jimenez said they would no longer send voter’s IDs by mail or release it through barangay officials.

“It has to be claimed personally at local Comelec offices,” he said.

Jimenez said election officers would post a list of voters with unclaimed IDs.
