Maguindanao provincial engineer, son, driver killed in ambush

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines - Gunmen riding motorcycles on Thursday shot dead the provincial engineer of Maguindanao, his son and driver in a daring at a national highway in Datu Unsay town in Maguindanao.

The fatalities, engineer Landap Guinaid, his still unidentified son and driver, died from gunshot wounds sustained in the attack.

Reports reaching the headquarters of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (ID) in Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat town said the victims were riding a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck bound for Cotabato City when the suspects who were trailing behind attacked with M-16 assault rifles.

Capt. Joaan Petinglay, spokesperson of 6th ID, said their intelligence units in Datu Unsay and nearby towns are now helping the Maguindanao provincial police investigate on the incident.

Petinglay said the cadavers of the victim were immediately turned over by responding soldiers and policemen to their relatives.
