Village chief killed

BATANGAS, Philippines – Another barangay chairman in Batangas was shot dead yesterday.

Arthur Marasigan Sr. of Barangay Santiago was driving his car out of the garage when an unidentified man appeared from behind and shot him at around 9 a.m.

Marasigan died while being treated at the St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.Witnesses said the assailant fled on foot.

Marasigan was president of the association of barangay captains in Sto. Tomas. He is the father of the administrator of the Sto. Tomas municipal government and brother of former vice mayor Albert Marasigan.

Senior Superintendent Leopoldo Cabanag, Batangas police director, said probers are eyeing work-related issues or a grudge as the motive for the killing.

On Monday, Leonardo Pureza, chairman of Barangay Pag-Olingin in Lipa City, was gunned down while waiting for his wife in a parked jeepney along the highway.
