Drug war: 13 more slain in Luzon

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Thirteen more suspected drug pushers were killed in Luzon since Monday.

Eight were killed during Oplan “One Time Big Time” conducted by the Bulacan police yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Romeo Caramat, Bulacan police director, said two were killed in separate stings in Malolos City and one each in San Jose del Monte City and the towns of Bocaue, Bulakan and Pulilan. The suspects have yet to be identified.

Caramat said 46 others were arrested in 16 anti-drug operations in Bulacan yesterday.

He said the suspects yielded at least 109 sachets of suspected shabu, 10 .38-caliber revolvers, a shotgun, a .9mm rifle and three motorcycles.

Also in Bulakan town, Jhonny de Leon was allegedly killed in a shootout with police in Barangay Sta. Ana.

Police said a .38-caliber revolver, three sachets of shabu and P500 in cash were recovered from the suspect.

In Camarines Norte, Lloyd Ian Ceribo was standing in front of his house in Barangay 5 in Daet town on Monday when unidentified men fired at him. His mother Grace, 55, was hit by stray bullets and brought to a hospital for treatment.

Two other drug suspects were shot dead in Panga-sinan.

Lourdes Panlilio, alias Naneng, 31, was walking with her siblings in Barangay Casantaan in Urdaneta City when two men on a motorcycle pulled over and shot her.

Police said Panlilio was ranked seventh on the drug watchlist in Urdaneta.

Tricycle driver Rechel Agpon, 37, who was among the most wanted drug suspects in Calasiao town was shot dead in Barangay Banaoang on Monday.

In Isabela, Jerry Cardenas, 23, a suspected drug pusher in Cauayan City, was gunned down in Barangay District One.

Parade

Meanwhile, around 600 suspected drug users and pushers who have surrendered from July 11 to 22 joined a parade in Mangatarem, Pangasinan yesterday.

“What we did was not a shame campaign. We wanted to show the public that we are united in the fight against illegal drugs,” said Chief Inspector June Galingan, Mangatarem police chief.

Galingan said the drug personalities attended a mass and signed an oath of undertaking to stop their illegal activities after the parade.

He said the next batch of drug personalities who will surrender will be asked to join a similar activity aside from rendering a weeklong community service. – With Cesar Ramirez, Raymund Catindig, Francis Elevado, Eva Visperas
