DOE asked to probe NGCP
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco) has called on the Department of Energy (DOE) to look into complaints on the failure of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to address power fluctuations in northern Negros.
The fluctuations were caused by solar power generation interconnections to its 69-kiloVolt power line, Danny Pondevilla, Noneco manager, said in a letter to DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
“Your intervention and possible immediate investigation on the matter is very much appreciated for the benefit of Noneco’s member-consumers whose agony due to this mess remains unacted,” Pondevilla’s letter read.
He suggested limiting the production output of solar plants as a temporary solution while long-term remedies are being worked out.
Pondevilla said the NGCP should deliver the correct voltage and maintenance of its transmission lines under the Distribution Code.
He said their consumers, especially in San Carlos City, where several solar power plants are installed, had complained about the damage and losses they suffered due to blackouts and power fluctuations.
