PCG ends search for Quezon vice mayor

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has ended its search and rescue operations for Polillo, Quezon Vice Mayor Ramil Fajar-do, who went missing after his motorboat capsized on June 19.

“The weather condition in the area was bad, we had to temporarily terminate the search on Sunday,” Lt. Cmdr. Eugenio Federico, PCG-Northern Quezon station chief, said yesterday.

Federico said there were  requests to continue the search when they receive leads regarding Fajardo’s location.

Despite calling off the operations, Federico said the notice to mariners to ships passing near the Polillo Strait remains in effect. He said they are also coordinating with local government units, particularly those in coastal barangays.

Boat captain Romeo Malagueno told the PCG they were returning to Polillo from a visit to Barangay Calutcot in Budeos town when their boat capsized after it was hit by strong winds.
