The Philippine Star

BINMALEY, Pangasinan, Philippines  – A village councilman and his brother were shot dead by a police officer following a quarrel over a basketball game in this town yesterday morning.

Robert Rosario, councilman of Barangay Camaley, died at the scene, while his brother Roger was declared dead on arrival at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in nearby San Carlos City.

Senior Superintendent Edgar Alan Okubo, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan police, said the officer, whose name was not immediately available, fled after the shooting.

Reports said the Rosarios were watching a basketball game at Camaley Central School, wherein their relatives and that of the suspect were among the players.

A quarrel reportedly broke out between the relatives of the Rosarios and the suspect.

The officer’s relatives went home and told him about the incident.

The lawman drove to the basketball court and confronted the Rosarios. A quarrel broke out between them, prompting the officer to take a gun from his car and shoot the victims.
