DENR to put up arboretum in Antique town

MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources will put up an arboretum in Pandan, Antique to protect and conserve trees that are considered endangered species.
According to the Philippine Information Agency regional office in the Western Visayas, the arboretum will be put up in Barangay Sto. Rosario in Pandan in Pandan.
PIA, quoting Technical Services Division Chief Mirza Samillano, said the area "will be planted with select indigenous species of trees in Sto. Rosario and to its neighboring barangays Guia and Candari.”
She added the project is part of Antique province's efforts to conserve biodiversity in the province and in the Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park, which straddles Antique and Aklan provinces.
Aside from the arboretum project, the DENR in the province will also plant different species of bamboo, orchids, herbs and palms to develop eco-tourism in the province, PIA said.
