Benguet gets Japan-funded projects

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Japanese embassy turned over two projects in Benguet on Tuesday.

First Secretary Kenji Terada witnessed the turnover ceremony of a biodegradable waste composting facility in Buguias town and a food-processing center in La Trinidad.

The projects, the construction of which started last year and 2011, respectively, are part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.

Japan selected Benguet as the recipient of the projects in view of the province’s poor distribution network, which affects the quality of its products.

“The Japanese government will continue to support the country’s agricultural system through the improvement of productivity, provision of value-adding activities and development of marketing and distribution channels,” the embassy said.
