4 soldiers hurt in Sultan Kudarat clash

John Unson - The Philippine Star

SULTAN KUDARAT, Philippines – Four soldiers were wounded in an encounter with New People’s Army rebels in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday.

The wounded soldiers were brought to a hospital for treatment, Capt. Danny Tapang, spokesman for the 39th Infantry Battalion, said.

Tapang said the soldiers were patrolling an area in Barangay Datal Blao when around 30 NPA guerrillas fired at them.

He said village residents saw the rebels carry two of their wounded comrades when they escaped after they ran out of ammunition. The rebels fled toward the border of North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat.
