Imelda Papin files poll protest

Paolo Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Singer Imelda Papin filed yesterday an electoral protest before the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) against Arnulfo Fuentebella, who was proclaimed congressman of the fourth district of Camarines Sur.

Papin said the HRET should nullify Fuentebella’s proclamation.

“I just slept a few hours and my lead was gone. Imelda Papin will not just accept the results because we know that something unbelievable happened,” Papin said. “I will fight for my constituents in the fourth district.”

 Fuentebella got 83,969 votes against Papin’s 83,229.

Papin said fraud, including vote buying, marred the elections in Camarines Sur.

She said 24,611 votes in her favor were also declared invalid by the Commission on Elections.

“Such a high number of invalid votes... it was very abnormal,” she said.
