MMDA prepares transition plan

Mike Frialde - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - With a change in the government’s leadership barely a month away, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now preparing its transition plan.

According to MMDA chairman Emerson Carlos, the agency’s transition plan aims to guide the incoming MMDA leadership on the agency’s ongoing projects as well as pending issues.

“Ipapakita namin sa transition team ang mga programs and plans of the MMDA, as well as the ongoing projects and the pending issues to guide the next leadership of the agency,” said Carlos.

Carlos said the incoming MMDA leadership should focus on the flood-control measures being implemented by the agency across Metro Manila as the transition period would happen during the rainy season.

“Malaking bagay yan (flood-control). ‘Di lang kasi tag-ulan yan, La Niña pa. At sasabay pa sa pasukan. Yan ang dapat paghandaan sa transition period,” said Carlos.

“Dapat bigyan ng priority ng transition team ang flood control. Yung paglilinis ng mga estero at upgrade ng pumping stations,” he added.

Carlos said he would be stepping down as MMDA chairman come June 30, being a presidential appointee.

The MMDA chief however added that work at the MMDA would not be disrupted by any changes at its leadership as the core personnel of the agency will remain intact.

“Mostly intact ang MMDA at tatlo lang ang mawawala unlike nung nag takeover kami noong 2010,” he said.
