Comelec postpones canvassing in Basilan

Roel Pareño - Philstar.com

ISABELA CITY, Basilan - The election office in Isabela City, Basilan temporarily postponed the provincial canvassing of the result of the elections due to the absence of a data transmission gadget, according to a Commission on Elections (Comelec) official.

Renuld Macarambon, provincial election officer, said the provincial board of canvassers convened and arrived at the suspension of the canvassing of votes in the provincial level after they found out they have no broadband global area network (BGAN) to transmit the result to the Comelec central office.

The BGAN is a mobile communications system gadget used to transmit broadband wireless voice and data communications remotely.

Macamrambon said that aside from a lack of modem, they also have poor Internet service.

“Technically, we cannot have the provincial canvassing,” Macarambon said.

He said they have already informed the Comelec central office to remedy the situation by sending a BGAN for the election result data transmission because they are unable to bring it in Manila.
