Power cut at Isabela town hall over unpaid bills

Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – The municipal hall of Sta. Maria town in Isabela was without power since Wednesday after the Isabela Electric Cooperative (Iselco) 2 cut off supply over some P2.9 million unpaid bills since 2010.

David Solomon Siquian, Iselco 2 general manager, said they have given the municipal government enough time to settle their obligations.

“We do not give electricity for free. We also pay for it from power producers. It is unfair for small consumers who get disconnected for smaller unpaid bills,” Siquian said.

Sta. Maria Mayor Gilbert Masigan, who reassumed his post following a three-month suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman, cannot be contacted for a reaction.
