Batangas village chief gunned down

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Motorcycle-riding men shot dead a village chief in Batangas shortly after midnight yesterday.

Gilbert Alvar of Barangay 3 in Bauan town was about to park his motorcycle in front of a burger store when the assailants appeared from behind and shot him, said Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson for the Calabarzon (Cavite,Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police.

Alvar died while being treated at the Mario Bejasa General Hospital.

Investigators have no leads yet on the motive for the attack.
