Man kills self after seeing hospital bill

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A 45-year-old construction helper, who had undergone an appendectomy at a hospital in Echague, Isabela on Feb. 3, committed suicide on Thursday after seeing the hospital bill.

Roger Benigno told his relatives about his bill, which reached P181,592, prior to hiding in the bathroom of his hospital room and slashing his throat, said Chief Inspector Gerald Gamboa, Echague police chief.

Benigno’s body was found the following morning.

Gamboa said they are conducting an investigation to eliminate the possibility of foul play. ?
