25 Calabarzon towns, cities on poll watchlist

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – At least 25 towns and cities in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) are on the election watchlist of the police.

Senior Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, deputy regional director for police operation in Calabarzon, said the towns of Bacoor, Rosario and General Trias  and Trece Martires City in Cavite; Sta. Cruz and San Pedro City in Laguna; and Antipolo City and Rodriguez in Rizal are included in the list.

The towns of Atimonan, Catanauan, Gen. Nakar, Lopez, Macalelon, Real and San Andres in Quezon as well as Bauan, Laurel, Lemery, Mabini, Padre Garcia, Tanauan, Sto. Tomas, Calaca, Calatagan and Nasugbu in Batangas are also on the list.

Sapitula said these ”areas of concern” are being monitored for intense political rivalry, presence of private armies and threat from communist rebels.

He said the provincial directors and police chiefs in the said areas were ordered to implement the needed security measures to ensure orderly and peaceful elections.
