John Unson - Philstar.com

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - At least 12 hitchhikers were badly injured when a wayward truck plunged into a ravine along a farm-to-market road in North Cotabato’s Pigcawayan town on Friday.

SPO3 Dante Lopez, traffic officer of the Pigcawayan municipal police, said the victims were all passengers of the ill-fated truck, which figured in the accident while in Barangay Kulasi, en route to the town proper.

Barangay Kulasi is an agricultural district southwest of Pigcawayan town in the first district of North Cotabato.

“The injured hitchhikers were all rushed to the hospital for medication,” Lopez said.

Lopez said driver Misadael Bendor, who was also hurt, lost control when the engine of his six-wheeler truck stalled while he was maneuvering a downhill curve.
