Masbate fugitive captured in Antipolo

MANILA, Philippines – After more than 10 years in hiding, a fugitive from Aroroy, Masbate was arrested in Antipolo on Thursday.

Benjamin Mella, 45, who is wanted for kidnapping with rape, arson and murder, was shot twice in the leg after he reportedly tried to grab the service firearm of one of the police officers who arrested him.

Mella reportedly used the alias “Rolando Bautista” while hiding in the city to evade authorities.

An informant led the police to the suspect’s hideout in Barangay Sta. Cruz.

Mella tried to escape but was captured after a brief chase.
