Baguio judge gets death threat

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY , Philippines – A judge here has sought police assistance after receiving a death threat.

Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 7 Judge Monalisa Tabora received a white envelope containing a letter and a piece of black cloth around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Baguio police.

“Lintik lang ang walang ganti,” the letter reportedly stated.

The Baguio police vowed to provide security to the judge, the wife of former city councilor Alfonso Tabora Jr.

Two years ago, another female judge asked the police to beef up security at the Baguio Hall of Justice after a man dropped a .38 caliber pistol during a hearing.

The Supreme Court ordered the creation of a task force to handle the recent killings of judges.

Three judges had been killed since September.

Baler, Aurora RTC Judge Erwin Alaba and his wife had just arrived at the RTC compound on Sept. 11 when the gunman appeared and fired at them.

Wilfredo Nieves of the Malolos, Bulacan RTC, who convicted notorious carjacker Raymond Dominguez, was ambushed on his way home on  Nov. 10.

Laoang, Northern Samar RTC Judge Reynaldo Espinar was shot dead inside a cockpit on Nov. 22. He had been receiving death threats since last year.

The high tribunal had condemned the killings, saying it “represent the ultimate shortcut and an affront to the rule of law.”
