Explosion hits 2 North Cotabato power posts
NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – Several parts of Central Mindanao suffered power outage after identified men bombed two power transmission posts in Pikit town in this province shortly before midnight Friday.
The armed men reportedly set off improvised explosive devices (IEDs) they strapped to towers 44 and 45 of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, located at the border of Barangays Dalingaoen and Batulawan, according to town police chief Senior Inspector Sindatuk Karim.
The explosion cut power supply in Cotabato City, North and South Cotabato and Maguindanao for almost three hours.
Power was restored at about 2:33 a.m. yesterday, authorities said.
Lt. Col. Orlando Edralin, chief of the Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion, said soldiers helping the police investigate recovered an unused IED near one of the damaged towers.
The villages of Dalingaoen and Batulawan are known bastions of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and are covered by an interim ceasefire accord between the MILF and the Armed Forces.
