Wounded dolphin treated at BFAR facility in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY – A dolphin is undergoing treatment for three stab wounds in the belly at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) here.

Westly Rosario of the BFAR-national integrated fisheries technology development center told The STAR yesterday that the 2.7-meter-long female dolphin was found along the shore of Barangay Estanza in Lingayen town last Friday.

The mammal was turned over to the BFAR by personnel of the provincial risk reduction and management office in Lingayen.

Rosario said they were worried because the dolphin refused to eat. He said the wounds appeared to be inflicted by humans.

Earlier, the BFAR treated a bottle-nosed dolphin found in San Fabian town.

The dolphin was set to be released into the sea, but it died on Aug. 24.
