The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Two of six suspected bank robbers were killed in an alleged shootout with police officers in Bacoor City, Cavite, Sunday night.

The suspects were reportedly members of the “Termite gang,” whose modus operandi involves digging a tunnel in order to break into banks and pawnshops, said Senior Superintendent Jonnel Estomo, Cavite police director.

Estomo said the suspects were involved in a series of bank and pawnshop robberies in Bacoor and Dasmariñas cities and in Imus.

The fatalities have yet to be identified.

Patrolling police officers spotted the suspects at around 11 p.m. at a vacant lot located between a gasoline station and a bank in Barangay Habay 2, said Superintendent Rommel Estolano, Bacoor City police chief.

The suspects reportedly shot at the approaching police officers, triggering a shootout. Four suspects escaped after two of their companions were killed.

2 killed in clinic heist

Meanwhile, in Batangas City, two workers were shot dead by robbers who broke into a clinic in Barangay 19 Sunday afternoon.

Jeffrey Nilo Narvaza, 35, and Leonora Falceso, 69, died at the scene from several gunshot wounds, police said.

Reports said Mark Anthony Burog and Roderick Bonifacio entered the compound of the Batangas Clinical Laboratory on D. Silang street at around 3 p.m.

The suspects were identified through footage taken by a surveillance camera installed in the area.

Burog reportedly shot Narvaza before taking P700,000 in cash from the establishment.

The suspects were about to escape when they encountered Falceso, whom they shot in the face.
