Cop killed in ambush

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A policeman was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Agoncillo, Batangas on Tuesday.

Police Officer 1 Niño Marlou Atienza, intelligence officer at the San Nicolas police station, was in his Ford pick-up on his way home when he was waylaid at 3:50 p.m. along the highway in Barangay Subic Ibaba, said Senior Inspector Norman Cas-oy, Agoncillo police chief.

He said Atienza suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the body. The gunmen fled toward Laurel town.

Cas-oy told The STAR they would review footage from a closed-circuit television camera installed near the crime scene to identify the assailants.– Ed Amoroso, Arnell Ozaeta
