Airport cop who smashed cab suspended

MANILA, Philippines — The airport police officer seen in a viral video smashing the window of a taxicab has been temporarily relieved from duty.

Airport Police Officer 2 Alejandro Pineda Jr. was seen in a video taken last December 12 engaged in a heated argument with taxi driver Boots Ymata outside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

During the heated argument, Pineda smashed the taxi's window.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Sunday started its investigation on the incident.

Pineda filed complaints of disregarding traffic signs, obstruction, direct assault and resisting arrest against Ymata before the Pasay City Prosecutor's Office on Monday, MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said in a radio report.

Honrado alleged that the police officer had caught Ymata violating traffic rules twice before the video was taken by a passenger of the taxicab. - Camille Diola
