LTFRB orders rollback in jeepney fare
MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday ordered the P1 provisional cut on the existing P8.50 minimum fare in public utility jeepneys (PUJ) in Metro Manila.
LTFRB Chair Winston Ginez said that from the current P8.50 for the first 4 kilometers of travel, jeepney passengers will now pay P7.50.
The provisional decrease in PUJ fare covers all jeepneys traveling from the nearby provinces going to Metro Manila.
For senior citizens and students, the minimum fare will be P6, Ginez added.
He said the latest fare reduction is expected to be effective immediately.
The board said the fare adjustment stemmed from the series of rollbacks in the prices of petroleum products in the local and global markets.
The board is now studying a similar fare reduction in Regions 3 and 4.
