Quakes shake parts of Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines - Earthquakes hit parts of Mindanao yesterday morning but no damage or injury was immediately reported, state seismologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quakes, with magnitudes 4.8 and 4.2, occurred at 2:53 a.m. and 8:23 a.m., respectively.

The epicenter of the magnitude-4.8 tremor was located some 26 kilometers southwest of Kidapawan City, North Cotabato.

It was felt at Intensity 3 in Makilala and Tulunan towns and Intensity 2 in Kidapawan City and M’lang, and in Datu Paglas in Maguindanao.

The second quake was located some 35 km southwest of Kidapawan City. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Koronadal City and Intensity 1 in Kidapawan City.
