Marcos, Leyte youth discuss SK age extension
MAASIN CITY, Philippines – Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. attended a gathering of youths in Sogod town, Southern Leyte last Friday to discuss moves to extend the age of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) representatives from 15 to 17 years old to 18 to 30 years old.
The gathering was part of an SK Reform bill or the Youth Development and Empowerment Act of 2014 that is pending at the House of Representatives.
The Commission on Elections has scheduled a special SK election on Feb. 21, 2015. The SK registration ended yesterday.
Marcos, chairman of the committee on local governance, said there is a need to increase the age of the SK representatives to 30, as it is such a waste to remove them from the list when they reach 18 years old.
He said persons aged 15 to 17 are not yet of legal age and are not even allowed to sign contracts.
Marcos denied having any presidential ambition in 2016, saying it was too early to announce anything.
