Aug. 11 a non-working day in Samar

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines - – President Aquino has declared Aug. 11 a special non-working day in Samar which is marking its founding anniversary. 

On Aug. 11, 1841, Queen Isabela II of Spain declared Samar a province.

Malacañang also declared Aug. 5 a special working day in Northern, Eastern and Western Samar as the three provinces mark the 124th birth anniversary of Jose Avelino, a former Senate president dubbed as the “father” of the Philippine Workmen’s Compensation Law.
