Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - State seismologists recorded a moderately strong earthquake in Bohol yesterday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 4.5 tremor struck some three kilometers northeast of Catigbian, Bohol at 6:21 a.m. although there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The temblor was felt at Intensity 4 in Catigbian; Intensity 3 in Sagbayan, Tagbilaran City, Tubigon and Clarin, all in Bohol, and Cebu City; and Intensity 2 in Inabanga, Bohol.

Phivolcs said quakes of magnitude 4 to 5 are feeble shocks where damage is not usually reported.

Meanwhile, the agency also recorded mild tremors in Negros Occidental and Ilocos Norte yesterday.

A magnitude 3 quake hit 69 kms southwest of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental at 12:33 a.m., while a magnitude 2.7 tremor hit 42 kms northeast of Laoag City at 1:35 a.m., Phivolcs said.

The tremors, however, were unfelt, it said.

Last Oct. 15, a magnitude 7.2 quake hit Bohol and other parts of central Visayas, killing more than 200 people.
