CIDG denies Deniece Cornejo attempted suicide

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The police on Monday denied that model Deniece Cornejo, who is detained for the alleged kidnapping and mauling of TV host Vhong Navarro, attempted to commit suicide.

Director Benjamin Magalong, chief of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said in a radio interview that Cornejo wrote the letters WR on her arm with the blade of an eyebrow trimmer.

Magalong quoted Cornejo as saying that the two letters she wrote on her arm stand for "women's rights."

Cornejo's rape case against Navarro was recently dismissed by the court.

She is detained for charges of grave coercion and serious illegal detention in connection with the alleged kidnapping and mauling of Navarro. Her co-accused in the cases were rumored boyfriend, businessman Cedric Lee and four others.

Magalong said that there was no need for Cornejo to be rushed to a hostpital as topical medication had been applied to the blade cuts.

It was Cornejo's lawyers who told the media that their client was rushed to the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame, after she attempted to commit suicide.

Lawyer Salvador Panelo said in a report aired on ABS-CBN's "The Buzz" that Cornejo was dismayed with the city prosecutor's resolution saying she was not sexually abused by Navarro in a January incident.
