P’sinan has first measles death

SAN CARLOS CITY , Philippines  â€“ Pangasinan has recorded its first death due to measles complications: a two-year-old boy from Barangay Longos here who passed away at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital last Jan. 25.

Dr. Policarpio Manuel, the hospital’s acting chief, said the victim, John Carlo Matabang, had manifestations of measles when he was confined on Jan. 21 and died of pneumonia on Jan. 25.

At present, the hospital has 30 patients suspected to have measles, Manuel said.

This city accounts for the most number of measles cases in the province, followed by Bugallon and Calasiao towns.

From Jan. 1 to 30, the hospital has admitted 134 patients suspected to have measles.
