Heavy rains expected in Eastern Visayas as LPA lingers

MANILA, Philippines - The low pressure area (LPA) that has triggered flooding and landslides in Mindanao is still expected to dump rains in some regions including typhoon-ravaged Eastern Visayas, the state weather bureau said Friday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its latest weather forecast that the LPA was last spotted at 250 kilometers southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The agency said Eastern Visayas and the Caraga regions will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may cause flashfloods and landslides.

The rest of Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao region and the Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

The Bicol region, Cagayan Valley and the province of Aurora will be cloudy with light rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains or thunderstorms.

State meteorologists have said that the LPA has higher chances of intensifying into a tropical depression while it is expected to remain in the country in the next few days.
