Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Over a million people trooped to Manila North Cemetery to visit their departed loved ones this All Saint's Day commemoration despite the scorching heat.

A radio report said  people continue to come in droves to Metro Manila's largest cemetery, covering 54 hectares of land.

Unfazed by the humid temperature, as of  2 noon Friday,  the crowd at the burial ground is now more than a million, the report said.

Authorities stationed at the entrance of the Manila North Cemetery have confiscated several wooden carts carrying food and some candles as these carts could further congest the roads inside the area, the report said.

It added that policemen also stopped people carrying sound systems inside the cemetery. Lawmen also prohibited persons from smoking inside the vast compound, the report said.

Meanwhile, several first aid stations have  treated numerous persons who experienced dizziness due to the heat.

Almost 1,000 policemen, soldiers and members of non-government organizations are now securing the area, the report said.
