190 dead, P902-M worth of damage in Visayas quake
MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from last week's magnitude 7.2 earthquake that jolted Central Visayas has climbed to 190 while the cost of damaged infrastructures and properties has reached P902 million, authorities said Tuesday.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the fatalities include 177 from Bohol, where the quake's epicenter was traced; 12 in Cebu, and one in Siquijor.
A total of 605 individuals are injured while 11 remain missing in Bohol.
The NDRRMC said the major quake that struck Sagbayan, Bohol has affected about three million people including 111,239 residents who remain evacuated.
The deadly earthquake has left a total of P902.73 million worth of damaged roads, bridges, flood control structures, hospitals, schools, and other public buildings in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
The temblor also damaged 53,439 houses in seven provinces.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recorded 2,384 aftershocks a week following the major Bohol quake. Of these tremors, only 57 were felt.
