1 dead, 35 injured as jeep overturns

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A 51-year-old man was killed while 35 others suffered injuries when a jeepney overturned downhill in the remote village of Lenneng in Kabugao, Apayao last Sunday, according to a belated police report.

The jeepney was carrying Lenneng folk to the Kabugao town proper for their weekly marketing when its brakes malfunctioned, causing the accident.

Senior Superintendent Albertlito Garcia, Apayao police director, identified the fatality as Frank Pedrito Cawayan, who hailed from Agawa, Besao, Mt. Province. Seven of those injured were in critical condition and rushed to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center here.
