The Vamps on Filipino fan base: It's crazy

Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - British pop band The Vamps on Friday admitted that it's "crazy" that they have supportive Filipino fans despite being halfway around the world.

The band, known for the hits Can We Dance, Wild Heart, Last Night, Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart), Risk It All and Rest Your Love, is in the country for the second time for the Manila leg of their Wake Up world tour.

"I think it's awesome that on the other side of the world we've got really perceptive fans here that were really supportive from day one. On our Facebook page, even two years ago, the Philippines was like the second most active fan base out of all of our fans. That's amazing," guitarist James Mcvey said in an interview with members of the press.

Mcvey noted that the Philippines was the first country that their song became number one on the charts for two weeks.

Vocalist Bradley Will Simpson added that they were surprised that their song Risk It All became a hit in the Philippines even though they did not release it as a single.

The band vocalist also said that their Asian fans, particularly the Filipinos, are the loudest fans that they have ever played to.

"We're always going to try to come back and see fans in the Philippines because they've been supportive from the start. It's really kind of crazy for us to have fans here," Mcvey said.

Drummer Tristan Evans said that their show in Manila last year was one of their favorites.

"We came to the Philippines without expectations. It's kind of risky and weird but we did it and it was sold out and people were standing on the seats in the front, it was crazy, so cool. We really enjoyed it," Evans said.

When asked about the changes in their music, Simpson noted that their first album Meet The Vamps was "polished and organic" while their second album Wake Up was "a bit more ruled" with a hint of electronic sound.

Bassist Connor Ball is currently recovering from a knee injury but is expected to perform with the rest of the band for their Manila show.

The British pop band recently released their version of Kung Fu Fighting for the soundtrack of "Kung Fu Panda 3."

The Vamps, Before You Exit, The Tide and YouTube star William Singe will perform at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday at 8 p.m. - Patricia Lourdes Viray
